Techniques: experimental neurophysiology, immunohistochemistry, laser scanning microscopy, behavioral pharmacology

4. Molecular basis of the axon-oligodendrocyte interaction during remyelination

Main supervisor: M. Stangel, Department of Neurology, Medical School Hannover
Techniques: toxin induced de-/remyelination animal model, use of transgenic animals, histological methods, in situ hybridization, oligodendrocyte and neuronal cell culture, immunocytochemistry, functional tissue culture assays (for proliferation, migration, differentiation)

5. Seasonal Changes in Cerebral Structural Plasticity

Main supervisor: S. Steinlechner, Department of Zoology, University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover
Techniques: Immunohistochemistry of steroid receptors, leptin receptors, orexigenic and anorexic peptides such as NPY and AGRP for the anabolic pathway and CART and POMC for the catabolic pathway, apoptose-specific proteins (e.g. Bcl2 and Bax), in-situ-hybridisation for detection of gene activation
